Literacy Fun Friday and Other Reading Initiatives Celebrated by KLA Schools
Naperville, IL - In celebration of the Week of the Young Child, three local schools recently hosted a Family Fun Friday event filled with literacy-themed activities. On Friday, April 7th, each classroom at the participating schools selected their favorite children's book and offered corresponding experiences for families to explore with their children. Some of the favorite stories included The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Brown Bear Brown Bear What do you See, Pete the Cat and the Groovy Buttons, and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!Additionally, throughout the month of March, the three schools held a reading challenge that saw impressive results. Plainfield read 1000 books, Naperville read 1467 books, and Naperville West read 320 books.The schools also participated in a Little Library Donations campaign from April 3rd to April 13th. Naperville collected and donated 158 books, Naperville West collected and donated 110 books, and Plainfield collected and donated 146 books. Students from the Class of 4s and Kindergarten then delivered and filled Little Libraries within the surrounding community of each school during the week of April 17th - 21st.In addition to these reading initiatives, the schools held Scholastic Book Fairs in April. Naperville School's Scholastic Book Fair ran from April 10th to April 14th and sold $2894.87 worth of books. Meanwhile, Plainfield School's Scholastic Book Fair was held from April 3rd to April 7th and sold $3338.28 worth of books. Families rounded up their purchases to support All for Books, which raised money for families that can't afford books."We are thrilled to have had so much success with our reading initiatives," said the school's spokesperson.
