Snail City: A Story of Children’s Thinking, Discovery & Possibility

KLA Schools of Palmetto Bay invites families and members of the community to experience Snail City, a special library exhibit that brings the extraordinary thinking, creativity, and capabilities of children into view.
More than a display of children’s work, Snail City tells the story of learning as it unfolds.
Reflecting KLA Schools’ educational program and curriculum, inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach, the exhibit reveals how educators listen closely to children, observe their interests, document their thinking, and create meaningful opportunities for their ideas to grow. Through observations, documentation, projections, provocations, research, and assembly, an initial interest develops into a deeper investigation shaped by the children themselves.
Making Learning Visible
At KLA Schools, we believe children are capable, curious, and full of ideas.
Documentation allows us to make their thinking and learning visible. Educators observe and listen, revisit experiences with children, and consider thoughtful questions and materials that can extend an investigation. These observations inform projections for what may come next, while carefully designed provocations invite children to test ideas, make connections, collaborate, and discover new possibilities.
Snail City is a beautiful example of this process.
Through the exhibit, visitors can follow the evolution of the children’s work and see the relationships between their questions, discoveries, conversations, representations, and developing understanding.
