KLA Schools Celebrate the Joy of Play and Sensory Learning on International Mud Day

Plainfield, IL – On June 27, the playgrounds of KLA Schools were transformed into joyful mud zones as children, teachers, and families came together to celebrate International Mud Day, an annual global event that champions messy play, sensory exploration, and nature-based learning.


From head-to-toe mud makeovers to laughter-filled splashes, the day was filled with connection, curiosity, and creativity. Teachers and staff at KLA Schools curated immersive muddy experiences for children across age groups, encouraging them to explore textures, collaborate with peers, and embrace the natural world in all its messy glory.


“It was such a fun day. We love seeing the students explore,” said one enthusiastic parent volunteer.


Another parent shared, “I’m so glad you do this. It is so good for sensory development in children.”


Teachers echoed the excitement, describing the day as “crazy amazing” and “sooo much fun and sooo much mud!” At KLA Schools of Plainfield, both children and educators were fully engaged. “The teachers and children all had a great time at Plainfield,” shared Tracy Swatek, who also captured candid moments from the event. Cameo videos and reflections from teachers are being curated for a YouTube series showcasing the celebration.


International Mud Day is more than just play, it’s an opportunity to nurture resilience, promote open-ended learning, and support children’s sensory and emotional development through outdoor experiences.
