Student Innovations Shine in STEM Fair at KLA Schools

Naperville & Plainfield, IL - KLA Schools of Naperville and Plainfield hosted a successful STEM fair at all three schools on Thursday, February 23, 2023, featuring 34 student projects completed at home with their families. The projects included innovative ideas such as preserving avocados, dancing rice, and exploring ocean zones. According to Russell Frye, a student at Naperville West, "We tested paper towels. Bounty was the most absorbent!" The fair was a great opportunity for students to showcase their STEM skills and learn from one another.

The team at KLA Schools believes that children are natural-born scientists and have a natural curiosity about the world. At KLA Schools, children are encouraged to have open-ended experiences, encounters, and learning, allowing them to engage in the world as scientists by exploring, experimenting, testing, repeating, and processing everything they experience. "We are proud of our students' creativity and dedication to STEM," said KLA Schools of Plainfield School Principal Ms. Stephanie Schultz. "Their projects reflect our commitment to providing a well-rounded education emphasizing innovation and problem-solving."

The STEM fair is an annual event that KLA Schools of Naperville and Plainfield hold to encourage students to explore and engage in STEM activities. The fair also allowed children to participate in interactive STEM challenges, completing a mission card for a chance to win a special prize. Rebecca Baltikas, a Parent at KLA Schools of Naperville, said, "KLA's STEM Fair was a special opportunity to see my child explore each classroom experiment comfortably and enthusiastically. Also, it was an equally beautiful experience to see my son's glowing reaction upon receiving his award. We appreciate each teacher's commitment and willingness to go above and beyond!"

To be competitive and keep up with this changing global economy, KLA Schools believes that we must encourage and provide children with the opportunity to explore technology, engineering, the arts, and math. KLA Schools of Naperville and Plainfield's vision is to leave traces in the community by nurturing young minds to be respectful, caring citizens and leaders. The encouragement we provide at an early age can inspire a child to become an engineer, physicist, scientist, biologist, doctor, astronaut, or mathematician. The fair was a great success, and KLA Schools of Naperville and Plainfield look forward to hosting many more in the future.
